The Danfoss Radiator Thermostat Danfoss invented the radiator thermostat in 1943 The founder of Danfoss, Mr. Mads Clausen, conceived the idea that a sensor could control the room temperature. This idea was simple but of genius; the room temperature should automatically regulate the heating supply. Today Danfoss is the world’s leading manufacturer of self-acting radiator thermostats and millions of Danfoss thermostats are ensuring comfort and saving energy all over the world. The Danfoss quality system gained BSI certifi-cation in 1985 and since 1988 we have been approved by the international ISO 9000 standard of quality control. Danfoss has been the driving force behind the compilation of CEN standard EN 215 – the common European standard for radiator thermostats. Environmental policy The environmental policy applies to the entire Danfoss Group and defines the overall environ-mental work in all companies and factories. The term “environment” means both work environment, including health and safety, and the external environment. The environmental policy ensures that activities of the Group are planned and performed taking into account the individual employee, the work environment and the surroundings. The aim is to promote sustainable development in society by preventing pollution and eliminating undesirable impacts on the environment. Radiator thermostats save energy and protect the environment At first, comfort and safety were the most important sales parameters, but with the oil crisis of 1973/74 and 1979 in Western Europe and the USA led to a greater awareness of energy and energy consumption. Today the radiator thermostat has become a virtual necessity and an inseparable part of the campaign to save energy. Normally radiator thermostats are expected to save about 20% of the energy consumption in buildings. Danfoss markets a wide product range Danfoss understands the world as an entity and yet thinks locally. Our radiator thermostats are adapted to the needs and standards of individual countries. We are marketing radiator thermostats as well with built-in as with remote sensors to ensure optimum functionality, and a wide range of valves of which our presetting types can be set without the use of tools. The Danfoss Group has joined “The Business Charter for Sustainable Development” issued by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and the “Global Compact Initiative” issued by the United Nations. The focus areas of our environmental policy reflect these memberships. ◊ VE.TL.V1.02
